Families Strengthened

The family is the foundational social unit of healthy societies.

Scripture for Reflection and Preparation (HCSB)

Ephesians 6:1-4

“1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.  2 ‘Honor your father and mother’--which is the first commandment with a promise-- 3 ‘that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.’  4 Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.”

Colossians 3:18-21

“18 Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.  19 Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them.  20 Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.  21 Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged.”

Deuteronomy 5:16

“16 ‘Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live long and that it may go well with you in the land the Lord your God is giving you.’”

Preparation

• Praise God for who He is
• Confess your sinfulness and need for cleansing
• Allow His Spirit to draw you near
• Listen as He speaks to you

Petition (ask God to…)

• Help parents to put their spouse’s needs ahead of their own
• Help parents to resolve their conflicts instead of divorcing
• Help parents understand how much their children need them
• Help children resist ungodly influences
• Help churches minister to families’ needs
• Cause policy makers to pass more family-friendly policies
• Raise up a new generation of leaders to promote strong family values

Thanksgiving

• Thank God for hearing you
• Trust that God is at work to accomplish His will
